A naked photograph of Carla Bruni has been snapped up for £45,000.

The First Lady of France was none too impressed when the photographed surfaced the day before she accompanied her husband, French president Nicolas Sarkozy, on a state trip to Britain.

But a Chinese art collector will be very pleased it did ? he (or she) got a buyer to snap it up for £45,000 at Christie's in New York - 22 times the estimated price.

The image of Bruni was taken by photographer Michael Comte in 1993, when she was a top model.

The nude pic didn't, however, spoil her trip to England - the nation fell in love with her sophisticated Dior ensembles and so, by all accounts, did Gordon Brown.

What an enchanting picture and very beautiful. It's nothing more that you would see on the beach in southern spain!

Carla is beautiful - but the photo is over 15 years old, her right eye is nearly closed and her breasts are rather on the very small side for such a tall woman!!!!

Every knows she used to be a model. Why the surprise. With a body like that who can blame her for showing it off!!

I don't know why this photo caused such a stir. She's a model...part of her job is to use her body to produce beautiful images. She never knew then that she'd be France's first lady. And as the person above mentioned this image is no different to what you see in france on beaches, public parks, etc, even ski resorts on a sunny day!
