Carla's second day of style

Carla Bruni at the Guildhall state banquet

Rounding off the second day of her State Visit to Britain, Carla Bruni affirmed her new status as France's First Lady of style with another fashion-filled day.

Kicking off proceedings with a lunch hosted by the Prime Minister's wife Sarah Brown, for 120 of London's most influential women, Mrs Sarkozy chose a vibrant purple coat and grey trouser suit, again as the day before, all by Dior.

Her designer of choice could be seen as a savvy move in diplomacy by the President's wife, as while Dior is a French fashion house, its' designer John Galliano is English.

The look proved understated yet chic, and she again chose flat pumps rather than heels, to prevent herself from towering over her new husband.

For the evening it was on to a State Banquet at London's Guildhall to celebrate the visit, which was the first by a French head of state in more than a decade.

For this she chose a strapless burgundy gown by Dior, which was complimented perfectly by a stunning diamond necklace. Stunning, and yet relatively demure, the dress proved a perfect choice for such a formal event.

Whether influenced by Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn or even Princess Di, as many have compared her, France's First Lady proved she can most certainly look the part, and do it with style.
