Women won't propose

Wedding rings

It's an age-old custom that when a leap year comes round, women everywhere who've been waiting for their other halves to propose, can turn the tables and pop the question themselves.

However, the 'Ladies' Privilege' tradition, may not spur on as many as believed as new research suggests for 51% of the nation, this is the worst of proposal scenarios.

A survey of over a thousand people by greenbee.com has revealed that 51% of women will refuse to take on the traditional male role and propose on 29 February. And just to cement most women's views, 41% of men admitted they would not take kindly to their other halves going down on one knee.

However ladies, perhaps you should reconsider, as 22% of men surveyed said having the roles reversed would be their 'dream proposal scenario'.

James Furse, Managing Director of greenbee.com said: 'The research has shown that while women may have strong ideas on what makes for the perfect proposal, when the shoe is on the other foot it is quite a different story.'

But if you don't want to wait another four years, then why not take the plunge!

We have been together for 13 years now and although we did get engaged a few years ago I gave him the ring back as I was not convinced that this was what he really wanted. Now is crunch time so although I will not go down on one knee I have bought a glass token which says 'Marry me' and am taking him out to dinner. So the future depends on the response I get - but I am optimistic!!
