27-28: Forget oversized vegetables — the V&A village fête (vam.ac.uk) boast innovative stalls from some of the UK's hottest artists and designers. Let Crispin Jones' electric-shock therapy cure your modern ailments or avoid the mail strikes at Johnson Banks' Post Office. The month-long celebration features stand-up, theatre and sketch shows – our picks are a surrealist drag performance about the life of Princess Di and and a post-apocalyptic stand-up sketch predicting the future for Brangelina's adopted brood.
1: The theme for this year’s Portobello Film Festival (portobellofilmfestival.com) is magic, so expect a helping of tricks and illusions with your popcorn. Filmwise, there's plenty on offer - from Woody Allen's London-set Scarlett Johanssen romcom vehicle, Scoop to bittersweet tale of celebrity rehab, Intervention, starring Andie Macdowell.
