23: Forget paint, jigsaws are the new material du jour. Well, for Birmingham artist Ian Skoyles anyway; he forms entirely new images from old puzzle pieces. See his creations at The Lowry (www.thelowry.com) – recycling at its most innovative. 11am-5pm. The Lowry, Pier 8 Salford Quays, Manchester.

23: Dog owners alert: if your four-legged chum has a penchant for fancy dress then he or she will be dragging you to south-east London on Saturday for Peckham Pet-tastic 3 (www.peckhampet-tastic.com), a celebration of pets, creativity and picnics devised by artist Rachael House. So, what are you waiting for? Pop little Peggy in a prom dress and walkies! 2-5pm. Peckham Square, Peckham High Street, London SE15.

23-24: Didn’t get Glastonbury tickets? Head for Merseyside, where stately home Knowsley Hall plays host to its very first music festival (www.knowsleyhallmusicfestival.co.uk). The Who and Keane headline with The Zutons, The Coral and Madness providing strong back-up. We suggest making a glam weekend of it by checking into Liverpool’s latest boutique hotel 62 Castle Street (www.62castlest.com). From £37.50. Knowsley Hall, Prescot, Merseyside (www.knowsley.com).

25: In the unlikely event you have £700 to spare, we can’t think of a much better way to spend it than on membership of Shoreditch House (www.shoreditchhouse.com), the latest peon to fabulousness from entrepreneur Nick Jones. Given its location on the corner of Bethnal Green Road, we’re not quite sure how amazing the views from the rooftop pool will be, but the Cowshed Spa, bowling alley and numerous bars and lounges are worth the trek east alone. Shoreditch House, Ebor Street, London E1.

28-1 Jul: If you missed out on London’s Taste festival, don’t go hungry again – take a trip to Bath to explore the best of the South West’s food and drink. Sample gastronomic fayre accompanied with wines and beers, watch chefs demonstrate their art, or go all out at the champagne and seafood bar. Just delicious! From £12. Royal Victoria Park, Bath.

28-4 Jul: Ever wondered how the professionals perfect the models’ make-up for the catwalk? Here’s your chance to find out and get a makeover as the top make-up artists from Dior come to Selfridges (www.selfridges.com) to help you solve your beauty dilemmas. £25, redeemable against Dior goodies, will get you an hour with one of the International Pro team and leave you looking gorgeous. Book, on 0800-1234 000 (ex 12734), then arrange to meet friends and dazzle them with your new look. 9.30am-8pm (Sun: 11am-6pm). Selfridges, 400 Oxford Street, London W1.
