SARTORIA
Where? Sartoria, 20 Savile Row, London, W1S 3PR (020 7534 7000, www.sartoriabar.co.uk)
A bar on Savile Row - is it only for sharp-suited business men? In the heart of British tailoring land, Sartoria might reflect its fashionable location, but it certainly is not limited by it. Refurbished by Conran & Partners, the interior has a sophisticated air, with plenty of fun touches, such as the graphic of well-heeled ladies legs on the bar front, and a mix of different tables and chairs.
Formal location, formal bar? Bar manager Mark Jenner summed up the feel of Sartoria when he described it as finding a balance between the smartness of Mayfair, and the more laid back Regent's Street. Though the Italian restaurant section has a distinctly formal feel, the adjoining bar is far more relaxed and perfect for after-work drinks.
So, what's to drink? With the new décor has come a new team, and an impressive cocktail list. Using only high quality, and many niche spirits, it is worth being adventurous and trying something new. We loved the blueberry and limoncello martini, which was refreshing yet potent.
And after the drinks? If you don't want to move into the restaurant for a more formal meal, then stay at the bar and check out the snack menu. Far more elaborate than your typical bar bites, the menu is tailored to match the impressive array of cocktails. Try the crayfish and mango salad, full of delicious flavours and a fresh compliment to fruity cocktails.
Need to know? Early evening seems to be the time to go. Make it for the apperitivi hour between Wednesday and Friday, 6-7pm and help yourself to the complimentary array of stuzzichini laid out at the bar.
