Brera
Where? 74 Welbeck Street, London W1G 0BA (020-7935 2371)
Mood? Quiet, but oh-so sophisticated
To eat? This is traditional Milanese cuisine at its very, very best. You won't find a better veal Milanese this side of, well, Milan. Other dishes worth trying include the tuna with scallop stuffed courgette flowers and Risotto al Prosecco e foglio d'oro - a simple parmesan risotto, made with prosecco and sprinkled with gold leaf. For dessert, the sorbets are out of this world.
To drink? The 360° bar is the centrepiece of the restaurant, serving classic Italian cocktails like Bellinis and Negronis.
Need to know? Although newly opened in November 2006, the Fraquelli family has run restaurants on this site since 1973, when Signor Lorenzo Fraquelli first opened Vecchia Milano there. It is his grandson, Andrea, who has transformed a London favourite into the slick new offering that is Brera, giving it a new lease of life in the process.
