Mussel Inn
Where? 61-65 Rose Street, Edinburgh EH2 2NH (0131-2255979, www.mussel-inn.com)
Mood? Cheerfully busy. From the staff to the diners, everyone's got a smile on their face.
Why go? For cheap but brilliant seafood
To eat? The seafood chowder is unmissable, as are the signature kilo pots of mussels. Eat them cooked in their own juices, with blue cheese, bacon and cream, with basil and sun-dried tomato pesto, with chillies, garlic, ginger, coriander and cumin, or, our favourite, with white wine, garlic, shallots and cream.
To drink? The crisp and dry 2005 Muscadet sur Lie, Domaine du Fief Guerin, is a perfect companion for seafood.
Need to know? Being one of Edinburgh's most popular dining spots, it's advisable to book in advance if you can. However, if you turn up outside peak hours they can usually find a corner to squeeze you into.
