Looking for an exciting new career? The British Army could be the place for you...

This is a Marie Claire Advertorial

Want to start the new year by embracing an exciting and inspiring change? A career in the British Army could be exactly what you're looking for. An equal opportunities employer, the Army offers salaries according to rank, not gender, and is always recruiting for more than 200 diverse roles. There's also a pension, 38 days annual holiday, maternity packages and subsidised learning. You can even join as a Reserve - paid to train in your spare time. But what's life in the Army like? Marie Claire's creative project manager Shelley Halperin-Smith went to Swinton barracks, Salisbury, to find out what it takes to be a Royal Engineer.

'I was excited to be spending the day with combat engineers,' said Shelley. 'My first impressions were that everyone was really passionate about being in the Army and that passion made me want to get involved. I manned a huge armoured tank that is used to clear minefields and then detonated explosives - it was thrilling!

'I met a lot of women and they were just like the people you meet in my office - professional, focused and ambitious. Everyone takes huge pride in what they do and they all have amazing skills over such a broad range of subjects.'
