Sex And The City will forever be fashion fans’ go-to girlie show, with Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York, Miranda Hobbes and Samantha Jones providing endless fun and frolics, not to mention fabulous frocks.
Over the years, the lovely Sex And The City ladies have shared more men muddles, stylish stilettos and Cosmopolitan cocktails than we can shake a stick at, and had us in fits of laughter and tears alike. Not to mention green with envy over those vast rows of designer shoes.
There have been some seriously memorable Sex and the City locations, too, as the girls hotfooted it around Manhattan to the city’s hottest restaurants and most happening hangouts. And from the Magnolia Bakery to Tao, Il Cantanori and the New York Trapeze school, we remember them all.
Now, from Carrie Bradshaw’s brownstone apartment to the girls’ favourite NY locations, we’ve rounded up the best Sex And The City hotspots of all time!
The address given for Carrie’s apartment is 245 E. 73rd St, a fictional location created for the Sex And The City show. Those famous steps where Carrie Bradshaw often perched are real though, and are a feature on the popular SATC New York tour that visits the programme’s hotspots.
Central Park was a regular feature on the Sex and the City map, whether for Charlotte’s foray into horse riding or Miranda’s training for the marathon. It was also the scene for Carrie and Big’s first meeting since the end of their affair, and as she dodged his kiss, the pair fell in the boathouse pond. How could we forget?
Carrie Bradshaw suffered the birthday from hell when she celebrated her 35th at restaurant Il Cantinori. When all her friends were late, she was forced to walk home alone, managing to drop her birthday cake in the street in front of a crowd of builders. Ouch.
As Carrie attempted to give up cigarettes for new man Aidan, she instead turned to cake, and joined Charlotte and Miranda for cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery. The store has become a favourite with Sex And The City fans, and many visit the spot to sample the delectable delights!
Carrie Bradshaw’s penchant for Manolo Blahnik shoes made the designer’s 54th street store a favourite shopping destination throughout the series. She even set up as fake wedding list at the shop when her shoes were stolen from a friend’s birthday party; the only item on the list- the fabulous pair of lost shoes.
Miranda and Steve searched long and hard for a wedding venue that lacked the ‘ick factor’ and settled on the pretty garden square at Jefferson Market.
Carrie and Big were back on-again by mid-season 2, with Da Marino being the site of the romantic meal where he serenaded her.
New York’s hottest bars were a regular feature on the girl’s schedules during the TV series, with only the newest and hippest venues making it onto their radar. Carrie visited Tao for a date with jazzman Ray King, but suffered an uncomfortable evening when she bumped into Big and his supermodel date.
Carrie tested out the art of trapeze for a newspaper article in one Sex And The City episode, and honed her skills on the banks of the Hudson River, at the NY Trapeze School.
When Charlotte needed a fairytale dress for her Sex And The City wedding to Trey, wedding planner Anthony took her straight to Vera Wang, where she chose this voluminous strapless number.
Samantha was outbid by a mystery buyer (Smith) as she tried to bag herself a flower-shaped diamond ring during an auction of Ellen Barkin’s jewels in the Sex and the City movie.
Bookworm, Carrie made many trips to the New York Public Library during the Sex and the City series, eventually choosing the beautiful space as the venue for her fateful (non) wedding to Big.
Park Avenue Princess Charlotte York’s lavish Upper East Side apartment, described by production designer Jeremy Conway as ‘a Park Avenue pad with a split personality,’ features heavily in the Sex And The City series, including Carrie’s wedding day. Charlotte was gifted the proerty by husband Trey McDougal following their split, but Trey’s mother Bunny contested, Charlotte promptly engaged a lawyer, who she eventually fell in love with – the one and only Harry Goldenblatt.
After searching high and low for a Sex and the City-worthy apartment in Manhattan, Carrie and Big discover a spectacular penthouse for sale, which Carrie promptly names ‘heaven on fifth’. But it was never to be. After Big stood Carrie up at their public library wedding, the apartment was sold before they even moved in.
Charlotte was so angry at Big for standing Carrie up at the alter, that her waters broke when she spotted him at Upper East Side Italian restaurant, Lumi.
The Sex And The City ladies reunited for a trip to exclusive store Bergdof Goodman, to buy a wedding gift for gay friends Samford Blatch and Anthony Marantino.
