Radisson Edwardian Bloomsbury Street Hotel

Capital cool with a capital C

WHAT: A luxury boutique hotel located perfectly in the middle of vibrant London. Translation: the ideal place to rest your weary bones (and feet) after a mammoth day’s shopping on London’s Oxford Street. Upon entering, you instantly feel at home, with smiley faces warming up the cool, sleek lines of the marble-floored, dark wood-decked reception. Life-size metal stick men, like something out of a Tim Burton movie, add to the contemporary edge, while the cosy-looking bar immediately to your left instantly puts you at ease.

THE ROOMS: Are everything you’d expect from a 4-star deluxe hotel. Perhaps not the biggest I’d ever come across, but that hardly seems to matter when you take in the huge bed, sleek flat-screen TV and sparkly black marble bathroom. Coffee-coloured walls, modern floral blinds and a sumptuous velvet throw added a luxurious but homely feel.

THE BAR: Is buzzy and full of character. A host of bronzed ornaments, including pigs, horses and goat heads (you get it: there’s an animal theme) are quirky and cool, while fresh white flowers and candles inject the zen. Packed with comfy leather sofas, it’s a place you’d be happy to sip cocktails with friends or sit and read the papers on your own.

THE RESTAURANT: Is out-of-this-world divine for the price! It seemed a real shame that the bar was busy, and only two sets of diners (including my boyfriend and I) had made it into the restaurant. At a London hotel located in such a handy area for sight-seeing, it would be easy to check in and go somewhere else for dinner, but you’re really shooting yourself in the foot if you don’t let your mouth experience this taste sensation. Starting at £19.50 for two courses, the cost:taste ratio must be one of the keenest in London. And the service was ultra-professional, yet super-friendly.

WHERE: A feather’s throw from Oxford Street, Covent Garden and Leicester Square, Bloomsbury Street is tucked right into the epicentre of London’s top shopping and theatre districts. Perfect for out-of-towners wanting to take in the sights, business stops, or simply a gorgeous treat for those who don’t want to face the tube after enjoying a day in one of the coolest capitals in the world.
