Spoiler alert: Yes

Why go? Because as far as hotels go, La Mamounia in Marrakech is as Instagrammable as they come. In fact, you’ve probably come across the luxury hotel in your social media travels. You know that magnificent swimming pool complete with gold and hand-carved canopy? Yep, that’s La Mamounia. Or the monochrome marble room with patterned columns and tiles, which Poppy Delevingne chose as the backdrop for her wedding photo? Yep, La Mamounia again.

But trust us, the lavish hotel is far more than a social media fad. Set on a former royal estate dating from the 12th century, it was formerly known for its art deco vibe, before being completely restored a few years back to reflect its Moroccan heritage.

Don’t be fooled by its grandeur though, it’s the perfect haven from the busy streets of Marrakech. Get lost in its endless corridors, enjoy a spot of shopping in one of the luxury boutiques or relax in the hammam or aforementioned swimming pool.

Take a leisurely stroll around the landscaped gardens, with a walk among the orange trees an absolute must at sunset (the smell is divine).

The room: The rooms are the perfect compromise between comfort and style. Even the classic rooms are decorated in deep colours and corridors embellished with wood and tadelakt, creating a striking contrast. But really, the marble bathroom and its free-standing bath are where it’s at.

The food: Now this is where it gets tricky, in that unless you are starting there for a few nights, you’ll have the difficulty of choosing where to eat and where to drink: La Mamounia has five bars and three restaurants you see. The four restaurants offer four styles of cuisine depending on your mood. L’Italien serves up comforting Italian food, Le Français signature French dishes, and Le Pavillon de la piscine is great for al fresco dining by the pool. But whatever you do, don’t miss out on Le Marocain, which offers a modern twist on Moroccan classics and a full on dining experience thanks to live music and dancers.

For a night cap, head to the Churchill bar, named after the former British Prime Minister as he loved coming to the hotel so much.

And relax: The aforementioned swimming pool is as perfect IRL as it is on Instagram, so get those energy levels up by fitting in a few laps before chilling in the equally inviting hot tub.

How to book: Starting rates at La Mamounia are £350 for a classic Hivernage Room.
