Versace to cool the beach at its new Dubai resort
Holidaymakers at the new Versace hotel in Dubai won’t need to worry about sweating in their designer bikinis, the fashion house is planning to ‘refrigerate’ its beach to ensure no one gets uncomfortably hot.
In news which already has environmentalists up in arms, it was announced this weekend that the beach next to the brand new Palazzo Versace hotel will have special pipes beneath the sand to absorb heat, a chilled swimming poll and fans to blow cool air over the guests.
‘We will suck the heat out of the sand to keep it cool enough to lie on,’ the founder and president of Palazzo Versace, Soheil Abedian, told reporters. ‘This is the kind of luxury that top people want.’
The Palazzo Versace in Dubai will be the second Versace hotel to open, following the opening of one on the Gold Coast of Australia, which has already attracted more than its fair share of A-list guests. 15 more are planned for the future, after the opening of the Dubai resort late next year.
However, not everyone’s pleased to see the fashion brand turn its hand to hotel management, especially since news of the refrigerated beach was made public.
‘Dubai is like a bubble world where the things that are worrying the rest of the world, like climate change, are simply ignored so that people can continue their destructive lifestyles,’ sustainable tourism campaigner Rachel Noble told The Times yesterday.
