Looking for a spot of sun? Check out this picturesque hotel on the Greek Island of Mykonos...

Digital Shopping Editor Barbara McMillan reviews the Saint John hotel, Mykonos. Why go? Mykonos, like most Greek islands is an incredibly beautiful, incredibly relaxing place to visit, that’s but a few hours flight from the UK. Clear waters, perfect blue skies, friendly locals and an endless supply of delicious food awaits you. The island is small, but offers everything you need for a blissful break, and is a million miles from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The picturesque town has plenty to offer those who don’t fancy lazy days spent on the beach, making this the perfect spot for a luxury holiday that won’t blow the budget.

When? The weather is hot all year round, and the best time to visit is from May to September. Mykonos is a great spot for sun worshippers as the temperatures hover between 22°C-30°C, and even during off season, is pleasantly warm and very rarely experiences bad weather. You really must: Take a trip to the old town where you’ll find endless cobbled streets that weave amongst the charming tavernas and tiny shops. While you’re there, the windmills are a must-see. Lined up along the picturesque Little Venice, the white-washed windmills provide a great spot for taking in the coastline. Wander a little further and you’ll find a tiny cluster of bars and cafes, each perfectly positioned along the waterfront to enjoy those amazing sunsets. If quiet nights in are not your thing, there are plenty of chic destinations for cocktails too. Mykonos is famed for it’s nightlife and is well worth a visit for the club scene alone.

Stay at: But a 20 minute drive from the airport, you’ll find the five-star Saint John hotel. With a private beach, an award winning spa and two pools (both of which are positioned to take in all those incredible panoramic views) you’ll be truly spoilt for choice as to where to spend those long sunny days.

The hotel is large, without feeling too intimidating, and includes two gourmet restaurants and two elegant bars for post-dinner drinks. There are 136 rooms that include garden view, sea view, deluxe or superior, and a selection of suites available, with a truly luxurious private pool option for those really looking for the ultimate break. Each room comes with a private balcony and is but a stones throw from all the facilities. The hotel is nestled into a cliff, and should you fancy the walk, is a slight incline down to the pool area, or if, like us, you won’t want to flex those muscles while you’re away, there is also a handy lift option, too.

The infinity pool is the place for dedicated sun worshipers. The incredible views stretch further than the eye can see, there are plenty of sun bed options (with or without shade) with towels provided, and an impeccable poolside bar service.

Hop over the charming white wooden bridge and follow the cobbled path down to the private beach for a change of scenery and you’ll stumble across two small bars, perfect for a post-swim cocktail.

The picturesque bay was the setting for the infamous Shirley Valentine film, and it’s easy to see why. Quiet, beautifully peaceful and private – this is ideal for those who don’t fancy a day by the pool.

Relax at: The Aphrodite Spa, where you’ll find those ultra-relaxing treatments to really unwind. Seasoned spa goers who don’t fancy traditional treatments might want to consider some of the more indulgent offerings, whether it be Pure Collagen Facial (100€ for 50 mins) or the Aphrodite Secret (70€ for 50 mins) that sees a top-to-toe body exfoliation and lashings of hydrating ingredients to leave you utterly revived (and totally relaxed).

Dine at: The Kalimera during the day, for light lunches and an easy atmosphere. And for an elegant dining experience, head down to the Symposium for fresh fish, local wines and a dessert offering you won’t want to miss.

Book now: Easy Jet flies direct from London Gatwick to Mykonos. A 5 night stay from end of April-May 2016, starts from £599, Standard Double Sea View Room (based on 2 people sharing) 310€ euros per night and includes an American-style buffet.
