In May 2016, The World’s End Market launched its Old Fashioned Bar.

Walking through the elegant grade II-listed building into the dining area and up the stairs, you’re welcomed into a cocktail bar with an old-world charm, overlooking the Kings Road. The walls are panelled with reclaimed wooden crates and images of iconic movie stars and musicians.

We were handed the extensive cocktail menu straight away, each one partnered with a mythical story putting a spin on classics, created by head mixologist Bartosz Jakowiec. To say this man knows his subject is an understatement – what he doesn’t know about cocktails isn’t worth knowing, and it’s clearly a passion for him.

There’s a different vessel for each cocktail, ranging from golden pineapples to lanterns! The bar has a wide selection of premium whiskeys and the top shelf is lined with barrel-aged cocktails, reinventing classics by incorporating interesting flavour combinations and handcrafted alcohol infusions.

After enjoying our first cocktail at the bar, we decided to take the second round on to the small but perfect outdoor terrace, with soft, comfy seating and flowers, ideal for a summer evening. If you’re a Mojito girl try The New History, or whiskey lovers should go for La Luisiane.

After relaxing with our drinks, we headed back downstairs for dinner. It’s clear this place prides itself on the freshest quality meat and fish with market-style displays, you can pick your food and they cook it there and then.

We started with tasty artichoke, buffalo mozzarella with pesto sauce, and flatbread with blue cheese and tomato. Then on to the main event: cote de boeuf for two, truffle mashed potato and broccoli rabe accompanied by a bottle of Montepulciano red wine.

We were blown away with the portion size, the meat was perfectly cooked (medium rare) and the truffle mash was beautiful. We finished off with dark chocolate mousse – divine! The staff were friendly and attentive and the restaurant full with happy diners. Afterwards, we walked down the Kings Road on a balmy evening, very satisfied after our wonderful meal and drinks.

The Old Fashioned Bar is open from Wednesday to Saturday, 6pm to 1am, and on Sundays from 12pm to 11pm.
