Women have half as many sexual partners as men

Men claim to have had twice as many sexual partners during their lifetime as women, according to new research

Men claim to have had twice as many sexual partners during their lifetime as women, according to new research.

The Health Survey for England found that men reported having 9.3 different partners on average whilst women admitted to just 4.7 partners each.

A quarter of women said that they had only been with one partner during their lifetime – as opposed to 17 per cent of men.

The poll of 14,000 people, published by the NHS Information Centre, revealed that a quarter of women had had sex below the legal age of consent and 60 per cent said they didn’t always use contraception.
