Marie Claire Heath: Ask the experts: Woman doing facial exercises

Q

Despite exercising regularly and eating healthily, my chin and cheeks remain chubby while my body continues to slim down. Is there anything I can do to lose weight specifically from my face?

A

Providing you are doing sufficient cardiovascular exercise and expending more calories than you are consuming, you should naturally see a decrease in the amount of fat in your facial features as you reduce your overall body fat. But the changes you notice will be slightly different from the ones you are noticing with your body.

So ask yourself: is your face less puffy? Is the bone structure of your cheeks and jaw line more defined? If the answers are yes, then stop giving yourself a hard time – things are working; if not, then you may need to do a diet and activity audit, to check that you are expending as much energy and following as low fat a diet as you think.

While it is difficult to do specific fat-burning exercises for your face, you can do some facial toning exercises that may make your features appear lifted and more open. Eva Fraser is the face-toning guru and her facial exercises, while not reducing body fat specifically, may help move you towards the look you are trying to achieve.
