Q
I’m off on holiday in two weeks’ time and, despite living at the gym, I can’t get rid of my flabby tummy. How can I get a flat stomach - quickly?
Tracey, Leicester
A
We store fat under our skin and around our organs, which is why many people carry weight around the middle. So, use more calories than you consume a day, or they will be stored as fat. Combat bloating, commonly caused by sluggish digestion, by avoiding refined carbohydrates for the next fortnight, especially sugar (cakes, biscuits) and wheat (bread and pasta).
Replace high-fat and bad-carb foods with more protein, especially lean protein like chicken, fish or tofu. Have a fat-free yoghurt every morning with a little honey – it’ll aid digestion and is rich in calcium, which helps you absorb less fat in your diet. In the day, stick to thick soups, egg-white omelettes, fish and vegetables. Keep hydrated by drinking herbal teas, especially dandelion, which helps reduce water retention.
