Researchers announce increased risk of cancer for sufferers of endometriosis

Q

I've been feeling really down, and am worried that I might be depressed. How can I tell the difference between a 'down phase' and depression?
Marion, Weymouth

A

Ask yourself these questions: Are you no longer finding pleasure in your favourite activities? Is your appetite altered? Do you have reduced self-esteem or difficulty in concentrating? Do you feel constantly guilty or have thoughts of self-harm or suicide? If you're feeling really low and are also suffering some of these symptoms, you may be clinically depressed.

This can be treated with antidepressants but, in milder cases, 'talking therapies' like counselling should be tried first. There is also evidence to suggest that avoiding alcohol and taking regular exercise can improve your mood.'
