The diet: Atkins

The philosophy: When you eat too many carbohydrates, your body burns some of those carbs for energy and stores the excess carbs as fat. When you eat fewer carbs, your body begins burning fat as its primary fuel source.

The basic rules: Cut out bad carbs, including white flour and sugar, and fill up on lean protein and vegetables instead.
