New Ways to Work Out

Tough, fun, with radical results guaranteed – these are the new fitness regimes everyone’s talking about

Kranking (spinning for your arms)

Created by Johnny G, the US fitness guru who created spinning, the Krankcycle is like a stationary bike but the pedalling is done with the arms. Already huge in the US, Kranking has just hit the UK.
Why it makes you super-fit Kranking can burn 293 calories in half an hour, and boosts cardiovascular fitness. ‘It tones and defines the upper body, is great for bingo wings and is wheelchair-friendly,’ says Krankcycle instructor Sachin Premji.
£££ Classes cost £5 at Aspire Fitness in London (aspirefitness.org.uk) and will hit gyms nationwide later this year. See krankcycle.co.uk for more information.
Look out for VRX Biking classes. These spin classes have flat screens on the wall showing footage of nutters extreme cycling through cities such as New York, London and Sao Paolo. It’s like being there, plus it burns up to 500 calories in half an hour and cuts usual spin boredom by 100 per cent. Available at selected Everyone Active centres – see everyoneactive.com.
