Bracelet for Life

Charm Bracelet, fashion, Marie Claire

Not content with pioneering the fair-trade fashion agenda for over ten years, People Tree, one of our favourite 'Fashion with Heart' brands, is launching its very own charity this month.

With your support, the People Tree Foundation has grander plans to help some of the most marginalised communities in the developing world, while promoting environmental protection. And a donation from each sale of this limited-edition bracelet, right, made by fair-trade producer Bombolulu Workshops in Kenya, will help to raise funds.

To get your hands on one of these beautiful silver-plated metal and stone bracelets, £25, visit asos.com and peopletree.co.uk.

Living with a disability anywhere is challenging enough, but in Kenya, where jobs and state support are not on the agenda, it's really tough. Bombolulu Workshops was established nearly 40 years ago to provide work opportunities for victims of polio.

After training, skilled craftspeople make jewellery, leatherwork, carvings and textiles. The group now employs 150 men and women, providing them with a regular income, medical benefits and housing for the most severely disabled.

Working both at home and abroad the People Tree Foundation will support technical assistance to small scale producers in developing countries, support environmental projects, provide education materials for schools and young people in the UK and support campaigns to influence the business community and policy makers.

Safia Minney, founder of People Tree said; 'Fashion can be a tool for change to empower the poor and bring environmental protection to both producers and consumers. The People Tree Foundation will go a long way in helping us to do this.'

Your support could help to:
Reduce poverty by creating jobs for people in developing countries.
Support artisans and farmers to initiate environmental projects and spread organic cotton farming.
Promote community development like schools and safe water.
