Feeling the heat at Chanel

Posted by Carla Bevan at 21:27 on 9 Mar 2010

It's been an extremely cold series of fashion weeks this year, from the heavy snow in New York last month to the icy winds in Paris this week (my toes have only just recovered from the 20 minutes I spent standing outside waiting for Isabel Marant to start last Friday), which made today's Chanel show all the more perfect.

Shrouding his models in layer upon layer of fur (fake! Would you believe it?), Karl Lagerfeld served up the cosiest collection of the season, with the most extravagant backdrop to boot: melting iceberg delivered all the way from Scandinavia.

This being Chanel, the theme wasn't at the expense of the clothes, with the furry boots that kept the models' feet dry from the icy runway teamed with traditional boucle jackets and neat little skirts, the dresses just as pretty as always and designed to look as perfect on a Parisian shopping street as the Arctic, and there was still an iconic bridal gown to close the show, although this one had long sleeves, a high neck and the furry boots were still de rigour.

The message was clear, however: if next winter is as cold as this one has been, take your lead from Karl and you can look good AND be warm all at the same time! I'm sold.

Gorgeous. I love the fur boots and the hair is beautiful - wearable and inspiring.
