A skirt story

London might have been all about the dress, but Milan's designers want us all in skirts come autumn.

From Armani, where they were elegant and refined in the mainline collection and short and flirty in the Emporio line, to MaxMara, where they were cut neatly to the knee, or long and full-skirted to the ankle, the trend had as many incarnations as it did runway appearances this weekend.

In keeping with the refined but body-con aesthetic that has been so popular in Milan, the pencil skirt is also making a comeback, in racy leather leather at Gianfranco Ferré and DSquared2 or in sweet polka-dot print at Dolce & Gabbana.

With this penchant for skirts, comes a need for great tops. Pussybow blouses have popped up in places, making a great match for those aforementioned pencil skirts, as do Armani's waistcoats, but it's the jackets - so expertly cut at Dolce & Gabbana - that really stand out.
