Taylor Swift style evolution

We chart Taylor Swift's style evolution from cowboy boots and shimmer to sleek squad leader.

From the girl-next-door country star to one of the world’s leading music icons, Taylor Swift’s career has changed just as much as her style – and dare we say, boyfriends too.

When Swifty broke onto the music scene with her eponymous debut album back in 2006, she was the teenagiest teenager imaginable. She was 16 years, singing about unrequited high school love and her wardrobe comprised of junior prom style dresses, cowboy boots and curls, lots and lots of curls.

Fast-forward a few years (and we mean, literally a few), and her style has evolved into that of a sleek, all-American icon. The hair has been lobbed off and died peroxide blonde to perfectly complement her new power wardrobe that earns her spot on many a best dressed list.

The former Marie Claire cover star is no stranger to the red carpet – she’s been a fixture at music award ceremonies since her late teens – so it’s no surprise that she’s honed a much-loved polished style that’s contemporary as it is sassy. Think thigh-high splits, bedazzling cocktail dresses and super sleek Oscars-worthy gowns.

For upping her glam game, she now calls on the likes of Oscar de la Renta, Gucci or Carolina Herrera – switching between fairytale floor-length gowns or sassy mini dresses.

By day, she’s gone from her country roots via her preppy Harry Styles days full of stripes, dungarees and brogues, and into her latest incarnation of typical twenty-something staples, relying on a mix of cropped tops and coordinating skirts, playsuits and La denim-meets-New York sportswear and tailoring.

We’ve been able to see her grow up right before our eyes – from her career breakthrough as a16-year-old country star into a full-blown pop icon.
