Celebrating Kate Moss' best 90s fashion moments, from the early photoshoots to the catwalk highlights
She’s the undisputed queen of 90s fashion. And as she celebrates her 42nd birthday on 16th January, Kate Moss’ fashion influence is stronger than ever.
From the delicate metallic slip dresses to the grunge blue denim, we’re still lusting after Kate’s 90s wardrobe today. The SS16 catwalks were full of throwbacks to the decade of minimalism and achingly-cool girl style, and Mossy was without doubt the leader of the generation.
Spotted by Storm Models’ Sarah Doukas at New York’s JFK airport, Kate was only 14 when she was ‘discovered’ in 1988. The girl-next-door from Croydon quickly became a star on the rise in the 90s, her waifish figure standing out against the sea of Amazonian supers who were dominating the fashion world in the previous decade.
With new BFF Naomi Campbell and boyfriend Johnny Depp by her side, Kate’s 90s clique was (and still is) made up of the hottest people on the planet. Kate also had a few designer friends who were just starting their careers – namely Stella McCartney, Matthew Williamson and Lee Alexander McQueen – who, by walking in their early shows, she was able to help propel to superstardom.
Miss Moss fronted some of the 90s’ biggest, most memorable advertising campaigns (we never did quite get over those Calvin Klein pics) and walked for everyone from Vivienne Westwood to Gianni Versace during her first 10 years in the business.
Her nostalgic pictures are more relevant than ever in SS16 and we’ve got enough material in the following slides to be mood-boarding for months.
