Jasper Conran
By Lucy Hutchings on Tuesday 12 February 2008
With status, so comes spectacle in the fashion world, so when Japer Conran showed his autumn/winter collection across not one, but three rooms in the Royal Academy, it only seemed in keeping with his reputation as one of the stalwarts of the British fashion industry.
And so Conran proceeded to show what he does best: timeless, classic pieces that may not prove surprising, but certainly give his many fans what they want.
This was a collection defined by clean, neat lines, where the focus lay entirely on tailoring, cut and structure. Neat shift dresses with pinch-pleat waists featured in block colour, teamed with ballerina pumps and ribbed tights, in varying hues.
Monochrome proved the foundation of the collection, with an entirely black look opening the show, but Conran eased colour in, whether through hints of emerald green or dusty pink tights, to the models rosy pink lips.
The collection softened as it continued, with tulle skirted dresses in dusty pinks and light organza shell tops complimenting the clean lined silhouettes elsewhere.
