Sinha-Stanic
By Lucy Hutchings on Tuesday 12 February 2008
Day two of London Fashion Week, and a clear set of trends are already emerging.
First up, and following a slowly rising status over the previous couple of seasons, the skirt is back and taking centre stage for autumn/winter 2008, with its hem line higher and volume greater than ever. Nowhere was this more evident than at Sinha-Stanic.
Voluminous bubble skirts were teamed with slim line tops and cropped jackets throughout Aleksandar Sinha and Fiona Stanic's autumn/winter collection. Entitled Teenage Rebellion, the designers cited a mix of rock 'n' roll, high school and the American TV show Freaks and Geeks as the main points of reference.
The resulting collection was full of strong pieces. Setting a contrast to the voluminous padded bubble skirts, skinny silhouettes teamed matching tops and pencil skirts, which were wearable and beautifully cut. Simple shift dresses in block colour with clean lines featured tuck folds to create subtle volume, and bright knit dresses were future wardrobe staples.
Although teenage style may have proved an inspiration, this chic collection was a far cry from the style oblivion most of us would associate with our formative years.
