Amanda Wakeley

Marie Claire Fashion: Amanda Wakeley A/W 2008 Mitchell Sams

Black was back at Amanda Wakelely, but so was the body. For a designer more usually associated with flowing lines and languid shapes, this collection had an enticing number of body-con pieces, some so tight the models had trouble walking down the catwalk.

From funnel-neck cashmere tunics and pencil skirts to over-the-knee suede boots and long black leather gloves, this was a seriously sensual collection designed for women who are proud of their bodies.

The more relaxed shapes Amanda is famous for did feature towards the end of the show, in a series of beautiful superfine jersey dresses and slouchy satin trousers.

Silhouette and texture, Amanda said were the cornerstones of this collection and while those sleek skirts and dresses provided the silhouette it was fur, taffeta, ribbon and bronze studs which provided the texture, contrasting perfectly against a foundation of jersey and silk georgette.

In the main, the collection was shaded from black, cream and slate grey, however, the show closed in a divine explosion of jade green. Keira Knightley's Atonement dress has much to answer for this season.
