Nanette Lepore autumn/winter 2008

It looked like Nanette Lepore had consulted her drinks cabinet before starting work on her new collection, which was awash with wine-coloured hues.

From rosé and champagne pink through to merlot and burgundy, the clothes were all bathed in rich shades of purple – a shade which is fast looking like an autumn 2008 staple.

Inspired by the 'high society girl', everything in this collection was precisely styled and cut with unfussy, clean lines.

Silk, lace and pearls kept things classy, although it was the knitted dresses and plaid separates which had real character.

Bringing everything together were the models, with their sparkly tiaras and, delightfully, beaming smiles.

Front row, Ugly Betty's Ana Ortíz looked just as happy. Is Betty's big sister about to get a sophisticated new makeover?
