Max and Lubov Azria's eponymous line might only be two years old, but it's already a firm favourite with the red carpet set. Both Sienna Miller and Eva Mendes were name checked in the show notes as fans, while the on-schedule presentation attracted the most-high-profile front row of New York Fashion Week so far.
This collection though was less about red carpet dressing and more about luxe off-duty wear.
Offbeat, yet still resolutely polished, the styling was all about contrast: corseted belts strapped over gauzy dresses, taffeta skirts kicking out from under heavy coats, quilted bustiers containing fur gowns.
Colours didn't scream 'look at me', instead the designers opted for muted shades of charcoal, chocolate and cream, which were offset with black accessories and lighter prints.
Will Sienna wear it? Max and Azria noted they'd designed for a woman with 'quirky style', 'an independent visionary', and yet it still bore the hallmarks of a clean-cut hand. More New York than Notting Hill, certainly. However, there's nothing wrong with boho babes smartening their act up.
