Catwalk Show: Oscar de la Renta

Oscar de la Renta is known to have a wide-reaching fan-base. From the power women, note known-admirer Hilary Clinton, to the up-town ladies who lunch, or the fashion loving, such as Posh who took her seat in the front row, de la Renta made sure there was something for everyone in his spring/summer 2008 collection.
The show took place in a former Park Avenue church, with The Polyphonic Spree providing a live soundtrack. The first looks to emerge were chic and neat; slim jackets with belted trousers sat beside skirt suits with zip front tops, a modern twist to a classic style. Colours were clean, with black, white and flashes of deep red maintaining the co-ordinated feel.
After providing a working wardrobe, de la Renta moved on and suddenly everything became busier and less structured. Multi-coloured ikat prints adorned flowing dresses, with hints of nature in the feather embellishments and strings of wooden beads.
For the evening, a selection of gowns in an array of colours and shapes ended proceedings. From strapless peacock with bubble hem, to a floor length red column and ruffled hem mint green cocktail dress, there was certainly a gown for every occasion.
