IF ANYTHING CEMENTS your status as hottest designer-of-the-minute, it's a member of the celebrity cool set choosing to showcase your gown for the premiere of her latest movie.
So, when Keira Knightley hand-picked the gorgeous silvery-grey Rodarte 'goddess' dress for the London premiere of Atonement, Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the sister-team behind the label, were, unsurprisingly, beyond excited.
Now in its fifth season, the label showed at both of last year's New York Fashion Weeks, and its popularity has since, simply, rocketed. This year, they showed their collection to 600 press and buyers in a sauna-hot warehouse in deep downtown NY.
The girls didn't stray too far from their signature ethereal, floaty, dream-like style, but did add a new twist with sexy separates: metallic slimline trousers, full-bodied knee-length skirts, cobweb-knit cardies and silvery lace camisoles spiced things up.
New lingerie-revealing, peek-a-boo styles also added a touch of 'naughty' to the otherwise romantic feel. Feather-light chiffon, organza and silk dresses in lilac, ice-blue and nude had full skirts adorned with sequins, ruffles, tulle and flowers.
The girls revealed they do have a dark side by conjuring up a couple of sultry, gothic-inspired black cocktail dresses.
Gothica and goddess. Slightly over the top? Maybe. But beautiful all the same.
