Catwalk Report: PPQ
By Lucy Hutchings. Photographs by Mitchell Sams. on Tuesday 18 September 2007
AS THE FIRST show to feature model-of-the-moment Agyness Deyn, there was an excitable buzz surrounding PPQ before a single model had stepped foot on the catwalk. Luckily, designers Amy Molyneux and Percy Parker did not disappoint.
The collection, entitled Palma Violet, created the character of Violet, 'a Sonic bombshell of a girl holding down summer with tropical toughness.' This contrast was evident through an abundance of colourful printed dresses, edged with form-fitting gold chains.
Prints were crucial, in an array of tartan, Aztec and florals, often teamed with blocks of black whether as the bustier to a full skirt or the high-waist shorts to a tropical top. There was also volume: puffball skirts and boxy jackets created strong silhouettes throughout.
With Peaches Geldof acting as first celebrity model of the week, PPQ created a collection that will appeal to London's glamorous young things, but also featured some mature shapes and cuts from the growing label.
