Catwalk Report: Eley Kishimoto
By Jo Blackaby on Tuesday 18 September 2007
THE FIRST THING that strikes you about the Eley Kishimoto spring/summer collection is its clever use of colour and print.
Design duo Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto used stripes as the front-running print, with everything from bold, thick lines - seen on blue and white cropped knitted cardies and skirts - to thin, vertical stripes on a black and white puffball-sleeved mini. The lines even extended to the sexy over-the-knee socks and a gorgeous peach and black waist belt.
Bold floral prints made sure the look wasn't too 'striped out', with bright halterneck tops and dresses stealing back some of the limelight. The pair created an energetic, fun, full-of-life feel by teaming contrasting prints and textures - including lace, embroidery and patchwork.
But it wasn't all print on print: colour-block panel dresses in vivid orange and purple were among the most outstanding pieces of the collection.
In fact, colour was absolutely key, with a rich and varied palette ranging from outstanding blue, green, purple, orange and pink combinations to striking black and white. And with names like 'cubic shower' and 'loopy lawn', we wouldn't have expected anything less dramatic.
