Catwalk Report: Julien Macdonald

THERE ARE A number of things that are predictable about a Julien Macdonaldshow: there is always a high celeb count, usually a ticker tape ending and lots of glitter and glitz in-between. On Sunday night, Wales' most successful fashion export did not disappoint. With Girls Aloud's Cheryl and Nicola sitting in a front row that also included Joan Collins, Shirley Bassey, Erin O'Connor and Tara Reid, the stage was set for another signature spectacle.
Diamonds are Forever played out over the speakers to signal the start, an indication that Macdonald's love of all that sparkles would endeavour for another season.
Models with slicked-back hair and minimal make-up certainly allowed the clothes to take the limelight, and the red carpet fare, for which Macdonald is famed, was again in abundance. Beading and sequins covered an array of gowns, whether strapless minidresses or tiered fringed shifts that featured lines of square jewels.
It wasn't all simple glitz though. Sporty influences featured throughout, with micro minis teamed with zip front tops, and a yellow tennis dress with pleated skirt adding a playful mood to proceedings. Colour was key, and though there was a lot of black, this was intercepted with shots of azure blue, gold, silver and pink.
As the show ended, Macdonald looked elated as he took to the catwalk and even swing-danced with a model as the crowd cheered. We may know what to expect, but Macdonald again gave the crowd exactly what they wanted.
