Catwalk Report: John Rocha
By Lucy Hutchings. Photographs by Mitchell Sams on Tuesday 18 September 2007
JOHN ROCHA HAD two reasons to celebrate yesterday; the Dublin based designer showed his spring/ summer 2008 collection at The Natural History Museum tent and then went on to launch his flagship store that evening on London's Dover Street.
The double-whammy is a reflection of the designer's continued success, and as one of the most crowded shows the tent has seen, his appeal is clearly enduring. For spring, Rocha took his romanticised style and added a strong silhouette dotted with moon and star motifs inspired by the 1950s lithographs by Alexander Calder.
Tailoring featured throughout, with structured shapes exaggerated by padded hems on jackets and skirts. Corsages of silk petals softened the lapels, collars and hems that they adorned, whether in black to blend into the smarter looks, or blush pink for delicate shift dresses.
