OUT OF ALL the cities, London has the fashion week most famed for nurturing new talent. As a result, each season a buzz surrounds young designer tipped to be the next big thing, and with Anna Wintour in the front row,
Todd Lynn surely took this crown for spring/summer 2008.
Taking inspiration from music and specifically the heavy metal bands of the 1980s, Lynn took his signature tailoring and went to work on the traditional tailcoat. As a basis for the collection, the garment became integral to the looks, whether cropped, sleeveless or deconstructed throughout.
Showing men's and womenswear, the genders became intermixed, as both appeared with slick backed hair and in versions of the same garments. Trousers were super- skinny or wide-legged, featuring innovative overlapping pleats for volume.
Lynn stuck to the traditions of tailoring and, as such, went for a palette of neutrals, black and white, albeit with flashes of bright blue and pink from the snakeskin Louboutin heels that accessorised the show.
The accomplished collection certainly justified the hype, and Lynn stands in good stead to make his mark on future fashion weeks.
