Catwalk Report: Betty Jackson
By Report by Lucy Hutchings. Photographs by Mitchell Sams. on Thursday 20 September 2007
AS THE FIRST show of fashion week's day five, Betty Jackson prepared London's fashion crowd for the long schedule ahead by providing tea, muffins and a lovely collection of easy-to-wear pieces.
As an industry veteran of over 25 years, Jackson knows the formula for a successful show and largely sticks to it, albeit for a few innovative touches. For example, a largely neutral palette was punctuated by a succession of outfits in almost fluorescent vibrant pink. Elsewhere pop patterns and splashy tropical prints adorned relaxed shapes, and ditsy florals made for sweet smock dresses and tops.
Jackson took inspiration from the work of portrait painter Elizabeth Peyton, and commented, 'I love the way her images are pure and capture a moment.' As a result, colours were often block and embellishment was minimal, except for smatterings of sequins that adorned navy blue eveningwear.
