Catwalk Report: Giorgio Armani

JUDGING BY THE tied-at-the-knee, Indian-inspired pantaloon shorts that were the staple bottoms, and the fact he got über-cool, model-of-the-minute Agyness Deyn to appear in his show, Giorgio Armani was attempting to be a little less classic, and a little more edgy for spring/summer 08.
Worryingly, the silk shorts, which conjured images of a mixture between I Dream of Jeanie and Aladdin, were slightly cartoonish and extremely unwearable.
Thank God, then, for the gorgeous separates they were teamed with: covetable silk vests, on-trend cropped jackets in rich blue and silver, wrap-style metallic blouses, and lace-covered boleros.
The second half of the show saw a return to what Armani does best: classic, yet glamorous red-carpet gowns, from crystal-beaded silver show-stoppers (halterneck and strapless) to black embellished cocktail dresses; all given a Twenties twist with glitter-dusted scarves and fringed glitzy shawls.
Phew! His spring/summer 07 Prive collection was a lot to live up to, but the classy - funny shorts aside - '08 collection shows there's still fire in the old designer yet.
