Emporio Armani Catwalk Report S/S 2008

THE EMPORIO ARMANI spring/summer 2008 collection may have boasted 'Beyond Trends' across the backdrop, but the show may have set a new precedent that has nothing to do with hemlines, colour or style. As the show begun, it was not a model that started proceedings, but Beyoncé on screen advertising the designer's new Diamonds fragrance. An unusual move, and yet less then a couple of hours later, Gucci did the same thing, showing an advert as the show began.
Though this prelude may not have related directly to a theme of the collection, it did encompass the younger mood, reflected by putting a pop star on screen.
Hemlines were mini, and shorts and playsuits made bare legs a firm feature of the collection. Armani stuck to a fairly neutral palette, which has been prevalent across the catwalks this season, with grey, lilac, and pale blues accentuated by flashes of metallic.
The look was made smarter with an abundance of jackets, mostly tailored and in wool boucle, silk and black and white checker board print. Longer tux styles featured, as the models stepped out en masse, all in black for a darker more formal episode to the collection.
As the diffusion line to Armani's more mature Giorgio label, the designer allowed himself to have more fun with the Emporio line and a more upbeat feel surrounded the collection.
