After weeks of battling it out, Essex painter and decorator Matt Cardle was crowned 2010s X Factor winner, beating off stiff competition from baby faced boy band One Direction and Liverpool singer Rebecca Ferguson. Lucky Matt promptly signed a £1 million recording deal and got straight to work promoting his brand new track. And luckily it paid off. The ecstatic X Factor winner fought off the likes of Rihanna and the Black Eyed Peas to clinch Christmas number one, after selling a whopping 439,000 copies of winner’s single When We Collide in just six days.
