The beautiful English singer and actress Jane Birkin first made a splash in the Swinging Sixties when she starred as a model in the controversial film, Blowup. She married twice, to James Bond theme composer, John Barry (1965-1968), and French singer, Serge Gainsbourg (1968-1980), who also enjoyed a passionate affair with Brigitte Bardot. In 1984, Hermés designed a handbag for her - the Birkin bag - after the head of Hermés spotted her struggling to board a plane while weighed down with luggage. The Birkin bag has since become one of the best-selling accessories by the fashion house.
