Marie Claire picks the year's most stylish celebrities, from Kendall Jenner to Sienna Miller...
2015 has been a seriously stylish year for our favourite celebrities, with more hot trends, Insta fashion hacks and new designers to try than ever before.
So just who has made it into our annual best-dressed list? There are the achingly cool supermodels – Kendall, Cara, Gigi and Naomi – who all pitched perfect on and off-duty ensembles throughout the year. The red carpet winners – actresses Emma Stone, Diane Kruger and Sienna Miller – who navigated awards season without putting a (Choo-clad) foot wrong. Then there are the year’s top show ponies, FKA Twigs and Rihanna, who boldly went where other, more timid fashionistas didn’t dare to go, dressing like exotic McQueen birds and breaking records for the amount of pink tulle worn by a single woman at one time.
New entries on our list include Lily James, whose Cinderella tour wardrobe contained Dior and Mary Katrantzou, plus Lily-Rose Depp, Chanel’s new darling at the age of just 16, and Emily Ratajkowski, who evolved from music video model to key fashion player via a runway appearance for Marc Jacobs.
Here’s our pick of the year’s 20 most stylish celebrities…
First up it’s Kendall Jenner, whose transformation from reality star to supermodel came good this year, as she nailed both red carpet glamour and that model off-duty look that everyone wants a piece of. Kendall’s 2015 style file was packed with great denim, slashed-to-ribbons gowns and beautiful, daring tops to show off that bod. Click through our gallery to see the stand-out looks that put Kendall and co. at the top of our 2015 fashion chart…
Kendall Jenner wearing all-white every-thang as she arrives at the Kardashian and Jenner’s Easter celebrations.
Kendall attending the Calvin Klein fashion show in September.
Sienna Miller wearing Miu Miu at the Golden Globes in January.
Sienna’s street style game was strong in 2015 – we loved this Celine striped jumper dress worn in New York in January.
Emily Ratajkowski emerged as a new style star this year, wearing everything from glitsy green Balmain to embellished Altuzarra on the red carpet.
Emily’s off-duty style was equally cool, kick-starting the new geek chic trend with her hot specs and clunky Stella McCartney brogues.
2015 saw a lot of naked dressing, but no one did it better (or as often) as Jennifer ‘the body’ Lopez. Here she is looking incredible at the Vanity Fair, post-Oscars party in February.
Jennifer’s everyday style was just as impressive throughout 2015 – she worked dozens of oh so pretty full skirts and skater dress ensembles.
If you’re going to play Cinderella, you need a decent red carpet dress. And Lily James proved she was made for the role, wearing perfect fairytale dresses to all the film’s international premieres. This Elie Saab gown was one of our favourites.
Lily’s Cinderella story also involved more casual appearances, but she always pulled out all the style stops. Look a little closer at her Mary Katrantzou shirt dress and you’ll spot the detailed exotic creatures hidden in the lace.
Ms Twigs certainly turned heads with her incredible style this year, pulling off beautiful, daring dresses that other fashion folk simply couldn’t. Here she is at the opening of the V&A’s Savage Beauty exhibit in March, wearing a vintage Alexander McQueen ‘bird of paradise’ dress.
While everyone else at the MET Ball opted for classic ball gowns, FKA Twigs showed her colours in this Christopher Kane dress, formed of neon naked body lace.
Emma Stone shunned the classic red carpet ballgown at awards season in January, instead working this sharp Lanvin jumpsuit for the occasion.
At the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards, Emma teamed an elongated Dior blazer with a sheer chiffon dress, in yet another edgy style statement. Note, too, the epic earcuff action.
Naomi and Burberry are a match made in sartorial heaven, teaming up on several stylish occasions in 2015. We loved this shimmering rose halter, worn at the Golden Globes after-party in January.
The Burberry campaign star arrived to take her front row seat at London Fashion Week in September, wearing a top-to-toe look, of course.
Alexa’s had another stellar style year, launching her own denim line with AG Jeans and putting in the hours on the red carpet to give us moments like this – off-shoulder Erdem perfection at the British Fashion Awards in December.
Et voila, said denim line in practise. Good work Ms Chung.
Another of 2015’s runway style stars was Miss Gigi Hadid, a blonde bombshell on on the catwalk, the red carpet, the street… Here she is wearing DVF at the MET Ball in May.
Gigi’s Coachella efforts didn’t go unnoticed. From the denim hot shorts to the fine chain body jewellery, she gave us festival style goals aplenty.
2015 was the year that Cara Delevingne made the transition from supermodel to credible actress, and with that, she upped the ante on her red carpet wardrobe. On the Paper Towns campaign trail, she polished up, working everything from Saint Laurent to Mary Katrantzou.
Here’s Cara in Mary Katrantzou at the Paper Towns photo call in July.
Every year’s a stylish one for Solange and in 2015 she gave us tons of new fashion inspo. We loved this high neck Naeem Khan number she wore to the Oscars after-party in February.
Solange is always the first to promote new designers, too. Here she is in a vivid Rosie Assoulin trouser suit in May.
From that yellow ‘pizza’ dress at the MET Ball in May, to this epic Giambatista Valli tulle number at the Grammys in February, Rihanna made some huge style statments in 2015 and totally earned her place in our top 20.
Off-duty, Rihanna’s style was just as experimental. Case in point? This Dries Van Noten oriental silk wrap dress, worn out for lunch in August.
And 2015’s award for best pregnancy style goes to… Keira nailed it during awards season, styling her bump in everything from Valentino to Chanel. She even worked a heavy metal ear cuff – coolest mum ever?
Proving that attention to detail is everything, Keira accessorised her Chanel ruffle collar gown with a huge butterfly cuff.
VB loves her own designs, naturally, and proved to be her own best walking advert in 2015. We wanted this red number right off her back, as did Clare Danes, who wore it a few weeks later.
Selena upped her style game massively in 2015, falling in love with Louis Vuitton’s new creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere and vice versa. The result was a lot of gorgeous Selena-Vuitton looks, both on the red carpet and IRL.
Here’s Selena at the brand’s fashion show, September 2015.
Suki Waterhouse’s year was her most stylish yet – from dreamy Valentino to cool Coach accessories, she mixed it up more than anyone else.
Suki nails it at the Coach summer party in June.
Diane Kruger’s style never faltered throughout 2015 – she chose this sheer Chanel trouser suit for the MET Ball, rather than another classic gown.
And here she is arriving in Cannes in July. Has anyone ever looked so glamorous stepping off a boat?
The daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, Lily-Rose was hailed a style icon for the next generation when Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld made her the face of his summer campaign. Her take on Parisian chic has landed her a place in our chart.
Here’s Lily-Rose Depp wearing Chanel again at the brand’s SS16 fashion show, in October 2015.
Oh come on, we couldn’t not include the adorable North West, could we? Wearing baby Balmain to her ballet class with cousin Penelope Disick, we know who the year’s real style winner was. Too cute.
