Iconic designer, Yves Saint Laurent, revolutionised the way women dressed when he launched his label in 1962. His introduction of androgynous pant suits with square shoulders, tuxedos and safari jackets put paid to Fifties prom dress power, while his sumptuous evening gowns added an altogether more glamorous, attitudinal femininity.
Fast forward to 1999, when fashion phemonenon Gucci took the reigns for a cool $900 million, and cue identity crisis.
Fortunately, with Stefano Pilato now in the design driving seat, the collection has gone back to its roots, and YSL classics, including statement silk dresses in bold, clean colours, are taking up space on the catwalk again.
