Louis Vuitton
Perhaps best known for its eponymous LV motif, Louis Vuitton is one of the few designer labels that can claim to be instantly recognisable around the world.
The French luxury fashion and leather goods brand was founded by Vuitton, who first created that famed monogram canvas design in 1896. It has since become a status symbol, with a huge celebrity following including the Beckhams, Mischa Barton and Gwen Stefani.
Fashion's man of the moment, Marc Jacobs was appointed as the label's artistic director in 1997. By 1998, he had debuted the labels first prêt-à-porter line of clothing.
