As usual, Cannes Film Festival is set to be a star-studded event. Here are the celebrity dream teams gracing the red carpet this year….

It’s that time of year again and Cannes Film Festival is just around the corner. Every year the festival brings flashing lights, couture and more talent than you can shake a stick at but this year is an extra special event. This is the first time since 1987 that it will open with a female-directed film. Emmanuelle Bercot’s drama La Tete Haute will open the festival on the 13th May. Meet the all-star celebrity duo’s set to grace the red carpet…

The Comedy Combination: Amy Poehler and Mindy Kaling This hilarious double act will be representing their new animated feature Inside Out. The film is out of the competition but with Amy as Joy and Mindy as Disgust- two of five personified emotions that live inside a little girl- it promises to be heart-warming and entertaining. The two comedians are friends off-screen as well and earlier this month, Mindy uploaded a photo of the two of them doing shots together. Jealous much!! In a recent interview Mindy stated, “Everyone has a moment when they discover they love Amy Poehler.” Awwww we want to be part of their womance!

The Equal Rights Advocates: Vincent Cassel and Salma Hayek

Vincent Cassel and Salma Hayek are already among the Cannes elite. Vincent was the Master of Ceremonies in 2006 and Salma was a member of the Jury in 2005. This year they team up to bring their feature Tales of Tales to the festival- a loose screen adaptation of the fairy tales by Italian poet Giambattista Basile. So why do we love these two so much? Last year at the festival, Salma used the very public red carpet to show her support to the kidnapped schoolgirls in Nigeria by holding up a sign with the slogan #BringBackOurGirls. Later she spoke about her decision, “I've always been involved with the cause of fighting for women’s rights and I took the opportunity because there were going to be so many photographers to exert pressure.” Vincent also believes in equal rights and sees himself as a feminist. “I think it’s safe to say women are better actors than men. Women have stronger sensibilities than men, which allows them to go a bit deeper when they are on and off the stage. They are superior to men.” This duo screams #girlpower and we love it!

The Dancing Duo: Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard

Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard will join forces on the red carpet to bring their adaptation of Macbeth to the festival this year. We already know Marion can dance (and also jump incredible distances /walk on water) after watching her in her video for Dior. However, apparently Michael brings some moves of his own to the party. At the after-party for the A Dangerous Method premiere, he and Keira Knightly completely tore up the dance floor with Keira expressing, “you can count on Michael to buy a bottle of champagne when one is required.” Here’s hoping these two bring some of their moves to the red carpet...

The Beautiful Duo: Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron

This unfairly good-looking and super-talented duo will be gracing the red carpet to represent their upcoming film- Mad Max: Fury Road. Tom revealed how physically demanding it was taking over from Mel Gibson as Max but with a shaven-headed, one armed, bad-ass Charlize Theron by his side we have a feeling this film is going to live up to our expectations

.

The Experts: Matthew McConaughey and Naomi Watts

Gus Van Sant’s, The Sea of Trees will be in the competition this year. He has had some great experiences at Cannes with winning the Palme d’Or in 2003 for Elephant and some not so great encounters with his film Restless in 2011, which wasn’t so warmly received. However, with the winning blue-eyed duo of Matthew McConaughey and Naomi Watts starring in his latest project, we have a feeling Van Sant is going to have a good night. McConaughey has said the script is the best he’s read in five years and with the combined laid-back charm and the experience of the two leading actors- they have over 50 years of acting experience between them- this film is set to be huge.

The Outspoken Ones: Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz

This rebellious duo star in The Lobster, a film set in a dystopian near future where single people have 45 days to find a matching mate or are transformed into animals and released into the woods (thank goodness this isn’t a reality!) In real life, Rachel has already found her match with James Bond star Daniel Craig but when asked about his own love life Colin said: “It’s as flat as ever, empty nothing. I could throw a name out and it would come back to you, like a cave.” So perhaps the bad boy will be looking for love in Cannes. The only question left to ask is if he still be sporting his impressive moustache that he grew for the role.

The Philanthropic Pair: Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara

Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara will be walking the red carpet for their new feature “Carol”, a film set in 1950s New York where a young women in her 20s working as a department-store clerk falls for an older, married woman. These two blue-eyed beauties are known for their philanthropic efforts. Cate has always been an advocate for women’s and human rights and in 2011 she partnered with Clear for Life. This is an initiative to bring clean drinking water and more sustainable practices to undeserved parts of Asia. Rooney has her own charity, Faces of Kibera- a charity that provides food, medical care and housing to orphans in Nairobi, Kenya. If these two achieve such incredible charitable feats by themselves- imagine what they can achieve when they team up… Watch this space!
