Possibly one of the most-publicised romances in Hollywood history, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s relationship was played out before the cameras, as was their subsequent scandalous split. After almost two years together, the couple called off their planned wedding just hours before the event, amidst rumours of Affleck’s constant partying, and rumoured dalliances with strippers. Later the actor admitted that the Bennifer period ‘was probably bad for my career.’

In what could be considered the world’s most famous love triangle, Brad Pitt split from wife Jennifer Aniston in 2005, amongst allegations that he was having an affair with his co-star, Angelina Jolie. Although the actor has repeatedly denied starting his relationship with Jolie until after the marriage ended, she’d later claim they fell in love on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith, prompting Aniston to call Jolie’s comments ‘uncool’ and ‘inappropriate.’ The most intriguing celebrity break-up ever? It certainly still fills column inches on a regular basis.
Madonna filed for divorce from Guy Ritchie in October 2008, amid rumours that she’d fallen for American baseball star Alex Rodriguez. The Material Girl cited Ritchie’s ‘unreasonable behaviour’ as the reason for filing for divorce. The latest update’ The pair’s divorce was settled at the end of 2008 and saw Ritchie agree between £50-£60 million, a figure that included the value of the couple’s country house in England.
The young sweethearts met at the tender age of 21 when Ryan attended Reese?s 21st birthday party in 1997. Her response to their introduction? ‘I think you’re my present’. Cute. Two years later, in 1999 the blonde beauties married in a summer wedding when Reese was five months pregnant with daughter Ava. Juggling motherhood with a burgeoning career, Reese gave birth to the couple’s second child in 2003. But the cracks began to appear as Reese lifted an Oscar in 2006 for Walk The Line and in October that year, the pair announced their split after seven years of marriage. Sandra Bullock should have been on cloud nine following her Best Actress Oscar win, but instead, just a week later, she was rocked by sordid claims that her husband, Jesse James, enjoyed an 11-month affair with a tattoo model. The woman in question, Michelle McGee, sold her story to US magazine In Touch, claiming that she started seeing James while his wife was away on location filming her award-winning performance in The Blind Side. James issued a public apology days after the story broke saying: This has caused my wife and kids pain and embarrassment beyond comprehension and I am extremely saddened to have brought this on them.’
After making a career out of their couple status, Katie Price and Peter Andre announced their split in May 2009. And like their marriage, the divorce looks set to be played out very publicly in the limelight. Just a day after asking for ‘privacy,’ the pair started a war of words in the papers, with Peter calling his ex a ‘nightmare’ when she’d been drinking, and Katie releasing an emotional statement, in which she claimed that Andre initiated the split, leaving her ‘ devastated and disappointed by his decision.’ Expect his-and-hers tell-all memoirs to hit the shelves imminently.

Later the same year, Kate was exposed in the Daily Mirror allegedly snorting cocaine and her bad girl lifestyle was all attributed to Pete?s dastardly ways. In November 2005, Moss ditched the druggie singer, but they soon rekindled their love affair the following year. Rumours circled that the pair were engaged in 2006, but by 2007, the model had finally seen the error of her ways and called time on the relationship for good.
In classic movie star tradition, Sienna and Jude met on the set of the Alfie remake back in 2003 and the sizzling chemistry led to the beginning of a very publicly-played out love affair. A year later in 2004 Law was so bowled over by the actress he popped the question at her Notting Hill apartment with a £23,000 sparkler. The dream was shattered however when in July 2005 the Sunday Mirror revealed Law’s misdemeanours with his former nanny, Daisy Wright and the actor released a statement the same day, publicly apologising to his fiancée and her family. In what had to be one of the most bitter divorces in celebrity break-up history, Paul McCartney and Heather Mills finally thrashed out a divorce settlement – which saw Macca hand over £24.3 million to Mucca, as the tabloids dubbed her – after their break-up in 2006 was dragged through the papers, and the courts, for nearly two years. In that time, Paul remained admirably quiet about the proceedings, while Heather spat the dummy to anyone that would listen, culminating in a cringeworthy rant on GMTV, which soon saw her moving to America.
He was the one she lost her much publicised virginity to but the power couple first went public with their romance back in 2000, sitting together at the MTV Video Music Awards. Courting a red carpet romance and unable to avoid the paparazzi glare, the cute couple said bye bye in 2002 after speculation that Spears had cheated on the ex-N-Sync singer. The retaliation came when Timberlake’s Cry Me A River video featured a Britney lookalike and a tortured Timberlake. The singer however denied that the track had anything to do with the pop princess.
Set to be one of the most expensive break-ups in history, Robyn Gibson filed for divorce from husband Mel in April 2009 after 28 years of marriage. Just weeks earlier the Braveheart star was snapped frolicking on a beach in Costa Rica with a younger mystery woman. Under Californian law, the former Mrs Gibson could be entitled to up to half of the actor’s £640 million fortune, as she never signed a prenuptial agreement.
Yes, Mel Gibson again. This time his scandalous split was from girlfriend and the mother of his six-month old daughter, Oksana Grigorieva, and has turned into one of the worst scandalous splits Hollywood has ever seen, after Mel as allegedly caught on tape unleashing an expletive-ridden tirade of abuse against his ex. The pair went to war after their split over who would get custody of the baby, and Oksana’s said to have recorded a number of Mel’s shocking phone outbursts after fearing for her safety. The Russian model also claimed Mel ‘knocked her teeth out’ during a violent episode, and reportedly obtained a restraining order against the star. Fresh stories are still emerging daily, and Los Angeles police have confirmed they are investigating the Mad Max star for domestic violence. We’re not sure Mel’s career will ever recover.
Leona Lewiss split with childhood sweetheart Lou Al-Chamaa turned ugly, after her cheeky ex has demanded a million-dollar payout. The electrician turned Sony talent scout has reportedly demanded a £1.5 million payout from the star, after claiming he helped her to become famous. He’s reportedly told friends that he filled in the stars X Factor form, and now plans to use this as evidence for his demands. The British beauty has reportedly already offered him their £600,000 Hackney home in order to make a clean break, but it seems Lou has his eyes on a bigger prize. We’ll keep you posted.
Kelly Osbourne has split from fiancé Luke Worrall amid reports he cheated with a model he met on a photo shoot. And it seems she just couldn’t help herself taking to Twitter and Facebook, going online post a series of angry messages. ‘Luke Worrall makes me sick!!!’ Kelly wrote furiously in her initial entry, which alerted friends to news of a split. She also opened up on her heartache, writing, ‘I am not dealing with this very well. Keeping your head up is not fun! going to bed thank god for tomorrow!’
