In 2006, Wills used his polo prowess to impress Miss Middleton at the Dorchester Trophy Polo Match in Cirencester, Gloucestershire. Rumours of a romance had been circulating all summer, but the pair were snapped together for the very first time at this sporting event. Kate proudly cheering on her prince during the match, before the loved-up pair indulged on sneaky PDA on the sidelines.
Reuniting after their swift split, Kate and William made an effort to stay out of the spotlight, during a day of shooting in Windsor – a gift from the Queen. Wills was seen stroking Kate’s neck and showering her in tiny kisses as they bagged themselves a pheasant, or three.
Prince William and Kate Middleton got their gladrags on for the Boodles Boxing Ball in aid of The Starlight Children’s Foundation in the summer of 2008 – a rare public appearance. The happy couple both looked ultra-stylish, with Wills looking dapper in a traditional black tux, and Kate shining in a stunning, slinky coral halterneck.

In a moment rarely captured on camera, the pair let their guard down, kissing for the cameras, and looked happy, relaxed and giddy with love. Sweet.
In their first appearance together at a wedding in three years, Prince William and Kate Middleton flew to Salzburg to attend the nuptials of Chiara Hunt – the sister of a mutual friend of the couple’s from St. Andrews university, in September 2008. William was smart in pinstripe trousers and tails, while Kate cut the mustard in a cute summer jacket and paisley-print skirt.
Looking as loved-up as ever, Kate and Wills could hardly hide their smiles as they spent a summer day at the polo in Berkshire in May 2009. Snapped during some rare off-duty time, the cute couple took an intimate stroll away from the crowds, and giggled as they shared a private joke. After keeping a low profile for the first half of the year, rumours had begun to circle that their romance was on the rocks. But William firmly dispelled any talk, by fixing his arm firmly around Kate’s waist.
Kate and William looked very much an item as they stepped out to attend the wedding of Harry Meade and Rosemarie Bradford in Northleach, Gloucestershire in October 2010. Unusually, the pair arrived and left together, and were happy to be snapped for photographs, fuelling speculation an engagement announcement could soon be on the horizon. And it was.
It was the moment thousands had been waiting for. Prince William and Kate Middleton announced their engagement in an official statement, at 11am on Tuesday 16 November 2010. ‘The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton,’ an official statement from the Royal Household read.’The wedding will take place in the Spring or Summer of 2011, in London.’ The couple clearly couldn’t be happier and couldn’t help but beam for the cameras.
The loved-up pair stepped out together on the first post-engagement outing in December 2010, braving plummeting temperatures in the pretty village of Thursford, Norfolk. The coy couple were guests of honour at the Teenage Cancer Trust’s Christmas Spectacular and seemed delighted with the huge reception they received.
Kate got her first real taste of Royal life as she joined Prince William for their debut Royal engagement as a couple in February 2011. The romantic pair picked a cause close to their hearts for the joint venture, dedicating a new RNLI lifeboat at Trearddur Bay Lifeboat Station in Anglesey, North Wales. Quite the cute couple.
Taking their new life in the spotlight easily in their stride, in February 2011, Kate and William returned to where their romance first blossomed almost a decade ago – St Andrews University. Kate just couldn’t help but steal a loving glance at her Prince as the pair sat side by side during a service.
The royal couple didn’t put a foot wrong during a shrove Tuesday outing in Belfast, in March 2011. Kate and Wills smiled and giggled as they were invited to flip pancakes, looking relaxed – despite their imminent nuptials – and completely smitten.
It was the moment the world had been waiting for. And it really was a fairytale moment as Prince William walked down the aisle on the arm of his beautiful bride Kate Middleton. Miss Middleton’s much-talked about Alexander McQueen gown didn’t disappoint, and William looked about to burst with pride as he told his new wife: ‘you look beautiful.’ The pair – given the titles Duke and Duchess of Cambridge by the Queen – celebrated the day with not one, but two glittering receptions, partying on into the night.
In November, the caring royal couple travelled to a UNICEF relief centre in Denmark, to visit workers supplying aid to famine-hit Africa. The royal couple were joined by the Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark at the warehouse in Copenhagen, where they met charity workers and helped pack aid boxes. ‘Going to Copenhagen to view the supplies heading out to the famine zones was their idea as they are very troubled by the situation,’ a spokesman revealed. ‘The British public have already been very generous, but the royal couple wish to do what they can to help maintain global attention on the worsening situation.’
Prince William was protective as always of his lovely wife as they made a pre-Christmas visit to homeless charity Centrepoint in London. With a gentlemanly arm around Kate, they headed back to their waiting car to be whizzed back to their marital home.
On Kate’s first Christmas Day as a member of the Royal Family, she dressed to impress in a burgundy-coloured ensemble at the traditional Christmas service at Sandringham. Of course, William was by her side every step of the way as they were greeted by well-wishers and hordes of press.
The Duke and Duchess got the year 2012 off to a glamorous start with an appearance at the world premiere of War Horse. The royal couple smiled and joked all the way down the red carpet while onlookers could just stare at their beauty. Kate, in particular, shone in a lace Alice Temperley gown. But this was to be the last time we got to see the Royal couple together – for a while at least – as William was shortly sent off for a six-week tour of duty in the Falklands.
Ever the gentleman, Prince William keeps his wife – and her pretty embellished Matthew Williamson dress – dry as they hit the BFI for the UK premiere of African Cats.
Both Prince William and Kate Middleton cuddled babies as they attended this reception at Goldsmiths Hall in London in April 2012 which celebrated South Pole explorers, and the Duchess looked elegant as ever in a blue tweed suit by Rebecca Taylor.

The happy couple helped kick off the London 2012 Olympics with a British Olympic Team GB gala event at the Royal Albert Hall in London in May, where Kate won a fashion gold in her striking teal Jenny Packham frock with lace embellishments.
William and Kate boarded the royal barge ahead of the Queen, and looked rather impressed with it, too. Once the monarch was aboard, the Spirit of Chartwell joined the centre of the flotilla and proceeded down the River Thames.

Shortly after the tiny new addition to the royal family arrived, Prince William returned home to collect Prince George, taking the tot to meet his new baby sister. Just hours later, William, Kate and their daughter appeared on the steps of the hospital for a quick photo opp, before heading home to Kensington Palace. Congratulations to the royal couple!
