Why was Melania Trump unexpectedly admitted to hospital, and how long will she be there for?

Here's everything you need to know...

Melania Trump never fails to make viral news – and this month seems to be no exception.

Firstly, there were the photos of the First Lady living her best life with Barack Obama that went viral earlier this month, then the ginormous hat that she wore to meet French President and First Lady, Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron, which some saw as a not-so-subtle cry for help.

This week the First Lady caused viral news once more, but for a different reason, as it was announced that she had unexpectedly been admitted to hospital.

The White House confirmed the news, announcing that the 48-year-old had been taken to hospital to undergo surgery for a benign kidney condition.

Melania underwent an embolisation procedure yesterday at the Walter Reed National Military Center, with her spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, explaining that the surgery had gone successfully with no complications.

‘The first lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere,’ announced Grisham.

Melania’s husband Donald Trump also announced a statement, taking to his Twitter to give an update on his wife’s condition.

‘Heading over to Walter Reed Medical Center to see our great First Lady, Melania,’ he tweeted. ‘Successful procedure, she is in good spirits. Thank you to all of the well-wishers!’

We’re not expecting to see her for a while however, with the First Lady expected to rest at the medical centre in Maryland for the remainder of the week.
